Progress in Partnership with Black Student Leaders
Dear Terrapins,
In November, President Pines announced a partnership with student leaders of many Black student organizations that builds on the work we started together last spring. What began as community gathering has evolved into a more focused pursuit of an anti-racist agenda - with an emphasis on eradicating anti-Black racism at Maryland. Our collective efforts speak to two presidential priorities: to achieve excellence in everything we do and to create a more inclusive and multicultural environment.
Today, we write to you to announce a step forward in our partnership with the launch of a dashboard dedicated to updating the community on the Critical Issues Defined by Black Student Leaders.
In addition to listing the priority issues and timeline, the web page includes the UMD campus partners responsible, specific actions taken, and relevant details that offer context on our progress. A snapshot view of our collective work is available, and will be updated over time. We will hold ourselves accountable.
We would like to thank our student partners for leading efforts and collaborating with us, as well as President Pines who has been a champion and dedicated partner. We remain motivated by our committed students who advocate for a university that better serves all Terps. We advocate for the same!
Together, we acknowledge that there is much to be done, and we will keep working.
Sincerely,
Georgina Dodge, PhD
Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion
Patricia (Patty) A. Perillo, PhD
Vice President for Student Affairs
