Trauma-Informed De-Escalation and Crisis Support

A mental health crisis can occur in many forms and have a variety of triggers, including experiencing sexual misconduct or domestic violence. All UMD community members are invited to a virtual presentation that will focus on defining trauma and how experiencing trauma affects individuals, leading to a crisis reaction. Guest speaker Lt. Steven Thomas, Anne Arundel County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) law enforcement coordinator, will also provide information on how to address someone’s reaction to trauma, support them in processing the trauma, recognize if de-escalation is appropriate, and provide necessary communication skills. This event is hosted by the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct. Please join them for this important training!
